Front Leg Assembly

After last week's fitting of the tenons to the mortises for the front seat rail and stretcher, I laid out and bored holes for the seat wrap nails and dowels. Below I'm checking for square as I shape the curve into the front of the front seat rail.

Next was the front stretcher. The faces were hand planed and I used a spokeshave to make the curved profile on the top and bottom edges.

After the main surfaces were completed, I then softened the sharp edges with the spokeshave.

With the surface preparations completed, it was time for glue-up of the front leg assembly. I did this in two stages to keep it simple.

Next week will mainly be focused on the side assemblies, including shaping of the side seat rails and stretchers, and final fitting of the side joinery.

Hej då!
