Buffet Underway
Above is the completed SketchUp computer model for my next commission. It's a dining room buffet cabinet that is very strictly based on two earlier works by another local woodworker, now retired.
At the client's request, I have done my best to hold to the design themes present in the existing pieces and translate them into this new form. It is fairly large at approximately 5' in length. And quite complex with the layer cake effect of the base, main cabinet and upper tier of drawers. The following x-ray view reveals a bit of the complexity I'm in for.
The piece includes solid wood construction of the base, seven large veneered panels (plus ten smaller ones), two large web frames, three frame-and-panel doors, three frame-and-panel back panels, and lots of mitered corners... oh, and hand cut dovetails on the drawers! Also, the piece will be constructed so that it can be viewed from all sides. So, like usual, I'll be sure to keep a fine eye on all the edges and surfaces.
Please stay tuned as this major piece gets under way.
Hej då!
